-"Battle of the Books" has officially begun in Room #209 with the 5th Graders. Below is the linked book list if your child loses it. The 5th graders participating should also know the list they have been given. Also below is a link for the audio versions of many of the books as well. Students may use this when reading, but should be following along with the book. The district-wide 5th grade Battle of the Books competition will be held at Longfellow school on Wednesday, March 21st from 9:30am-12:00pm. Happy Reading! -Our Sheboygan County Historical Museum Field Trip is this Friday, February 2nd. We will be gone from about 9:00am-2:30pm. Permission slips were sent last week. Room #209 will be joined by a student teacher starting Monday, 1/22/18 and lasting the entire third quarter. Brittini Scoles is in her final semester of student teaching at Lakeland University and comes to Jackson with experiences in many grade levels (Grades 1-8) through her various field experiences as a preservice teacher. She is excited to join our learning community and the students are as well. She will be with us all day, every day for the duration of the third quarter, and will spend the first several weeks observing how our classroom works, as well as building relationships with the students. After those initial weeks, Brittini will begin to take on more teaching a little at a time, and by the end of the quarter, she will be teaching all curricular areas with my supervision/support. Please join me in welcoming Brittini to Jackson and Room #209. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Families,
Please remember to sign up for conferences using Skyward. Conference times are either Wednesday, February 14 (2:30-7:30pm) or Friday, February 16th (8:00am-1:00pm). So far, about 12 families have signed up. If you are having troubles getting signed up, please let me know. If any of the available conference times do not work, please let me know of another time and we can set it up. Families,
Economists in Room #209 will be studying Economics over the next several weeks. We are lucky to have Mr. Banko (Nash's dad) joining us for Junior Achievement twice a week to further engage us as economists and citizens of our world. As a culminating activity for our unit, we will be putting on our very own Shark Tank (based on the popular ABC show). Students will be working in groups to come up with an innovation to solve a problem/meet a need here at Jackson school. We will be discussing what need/problem the product or service solves, as well as the resources needed to provide that good or service (natural, human, and capital). Groups will then present their innovation to a small panel of adults to convince them to invest in their product. Students won't actually be making the product, but they will design it and then tell how it would work, as well as who it would benefit. My goal is to have these presentations on Wednesday, January 17th. Families are welcome to come for the presentation. Please let me know if you have any questions. |
