Based on feedback from families, 5th Grade Recognition will remain an evening ceremony held during the last week of school (Wednesday, June 6th at 6pm). The 5th grade teachers will be meeting with the PTO on Monday, April 9th at 4pm to begin the planning discussion regarding theme, food, decorations, etc. Parents are invited to attend this PTO meeting to join the discussion and planning.
Typically in the past, 4th grade parents have signed up to provide refreshments, and fifth grade parents sign up to help with planning and setting up. More information will be shared after the April PTO meeting.

Room #209 has recently started adding a morning affirmation into our daily routine prior to starting our day. This affirmation is designed to get our minds ready for a positive, productive day at school. Research has shown that students who start their days with positive self-talk do better socially, emotionally, and academically. Below is the affirmation, called "I Am Somebody" that we recite each morning following our Jackson Jumpstart, and prior to going to Art, Music, or Gym:
I Am Somebody I am somebody I am capable and loveable I am teachable and therefore I can LEARN I can do anything when I try I'll be the best I can be Each Day Each Day Each Day I will not waste time Because it's too valuable And I am too precious and bright I am somebody I am somebody I am somebody I encourage you to talk to your child about how this positive self-talk is impacting their day at school. Please let me know if you have any questions. Families,
Our classroom is experiencing some issues over the last couple of days in relation to theft. An absent student had three pieces of gum on his desk from a reward he earned, which were in a sealed bag. After our morning instruction, it was discovered that all three pieces were missing. One student has come forward and confessed to taking one of the pieces, but so far, no one has confessed to taking the other two pieces. After the two (chewed) pieces were discovered in a student's book bin, that child was confronted and said he/she did not take the gum. While I understand that the items stolen are minimal in value, I have talked with the students about the severity of theft, and how it disrupts our classroom community. We also talked that while we are all individuals in the classroom, we represent a larger classroom community, and are responsible for our own actions, as well as the actions of our class as a whole. Because no one has admitted to taking the two pieces of gum, I am temporarily suspending Chrome book usage in the classroom that doesn't directly relate to instruction. I would encourage you to talk to your child about the severity of theft and that these actions have consequences. Please feel free to email or contact me with any questions or concerns. Mr. Krause |
