Families,
We have a slight change of plans for Friday. School will still dismiss at 11:45, with lunch at 11:20. Instead of watching the three movies in the gym, we will be watching a movie in our classroom ("Paddington) with a donut and chocolate milk party. We will be going to the gym around 9:45 to watch the second movie, and then will return to our classroom to finish ours. Please let me know if you have questions or concerns regarding tomorrow's plan. Thank you again and Happy Holidays from Room #209!

Families,
As Mrs. Walters mentioned during the Holiday Sing last week, scheduling for February Parent/Teacher Conferences is now open on Skyward. Please go into Skyward at your earliest convenience and schedule your time for conferences either Wednesday, February 14 (2:30-7:30pm) or Friday, February 16th (8:00am-1:00pm). As this is our first year with Skyward, there have been some bumps in the road and kinks to work out. If you are not able to schedule using Skyward, please let me know and we can work together to get the conference scheduled. I have had parents successfully sign up already, so hopefully all kinks have been remedied. *Students can come in PJ’s and bring a small blanket for the movie*

Monday 12/11- Red/Green Day Tuesday 12/12- Pajama/Crazy Sock Day Wednesday 12/13- Ugly Sweater Day Thursday 12/14- Christmas Hat/Headband Day Friday 12/15- Formal/Dress Fancy Day Also, this Friday, December 15th, is our Annual Holiday Sing Program. There will be two performances, one at 10:00am and the other at 1:30pm. Students who perform in Band and Strings will perform their instruments at the beginning of the program, and then our class will be singing at the end. You can expect the entire performance to last between one hour and an hour and a half. Families who attend the 1:30 performance may take their child home with them following the performance, just please let me know that you will be leaving. Friday is a busy day, as we also have the Scholastic Book Fair taking place in the library (8am-4pm), and the Art Show in the cafeteria (until 5:30pm). I encourage you to visit both, as students made a wish list for the book fair, and their art will be on display and available for purchase at the Art Show. Finally, a big congratulations to Mya Grams and Katelyn Nettekoven for representing our classroom in the Jackson School Spelling Bee. They represented themselves, our classroom, and Jackson school wonderfully. We are all very proud of their accomplishments and bravery in participating in this event! To help us better understand the process of photosynthesis, students today went on a virtual field trip to examine the different stages of photosynthesis and how plants make energy from air, sunlight, and water. The students had an awesome time and we look forward to more virtual field trips this year! Note: This experience for the students would not have been possible without the graciousness of Mike Jaber and the district technology team. Earlier this year, I wrote an innovative grant to hopefully secure partial funding for these virtual reality viewers (total cost was $10,000), hoping to get the funding started to purchase at a later date. After reviewing the grant, Mike Jaber, district technology administrator, offered to purchase the entire set for Jackson school students to build background knowledge by engaging in virtual field trips of locations they may never get to see in person. If you know Mike, please send him a thank you for allowing Jackson teachers to further engage our students in science. |
