4th Grade Families,
This is just a friendly reminder that if you are able to help out with 5th Grade Recognition with the donation of refreshments, please send the pink sheet to school with your child indicating what you are able to help with. As has been the tradition in the past, we ask 4th grade families to help with refreshments, as your child will be recognized next year, and the 4th grade families then will provide refreshments for your child's recognition. Please let me know if you have any questions or need another pink sheet. Thanks, Mr. Krause Families,
Below is the link to sign up for the 2nd Annual Jackson Color Run, which will be taking place next week Thursday, May 31st starting at 6:00pm. This year, proceeds from the event will be going towards providing a MakerSpace for students at Jackson, to promote more Science, Engineering, Technology and Math (STEM) learning. Below is some information regarding MakerSpaces and what our building Technology team has put together regarding our MakerSpace. Hope to see everyone there! What is a MakerSpace? It’s a dedicated space at Jackson Elementary where students can work on creative projects. Working in the MakerSpace engages students in critical thinking and problem solving that deepens their knowledge of standards-based subject matter. Work in MakerSpaces improves students’ habits of inquiry, self-directed learning and critical reflection. In the MakeSpace you will see students learning, tinkering, inventing, researching, teaching, collaborating, sharing, innovating, socializing, and creating. This will better equip them to solve real world problems in college or in their career. We want to give students the opportunity to learn beyond the four walls of the classroom. Why do we need a MakerSpace at Jackson? Creativity, problem solving, engineering, and real world skills like communication and collaboration are all qualities that schools want to develop in students. 21st Century skills and knowledge like coding, basic circuitry, project management, engineering are skills that will encourage curiosity in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. All of these are skills fostered when students work in a MakerSpace. A MakerSpace is a safe environment where students can think, plan, create, fail and try again. 5th Grade Parents,
Last week, your child brought home a large poster board in the shape of a star to decorate for 5th grade recognition. Directions were sent with the poster board. Once the star is completed, please return to school so we can have them ready for June 6th. I just wanted to clarify the invitations that were sent home last Friday. I believe I may have given inaccurate information. Regarding the four invitations that were sent home, please hand them out as one ticket per small group of invitees. For example, please use one invitation for your child's immediate family (parents and siblings). The additional invitations can be used for smaller groups of family or friends. For example, one invitation can be for a set of grandparents, another can be used for the other set, and the final invitation can be used for an additional small group. We have about 65 students in 5th grade, and we want to ensure that all invitees have a place to sit in the gym for the program. If you have any additional questions, please let me know. Mr. Krause |
