Your child will be bringing home instructions on how to sign up for Parent/Teacher Conferences coming up November 15th and November 17th. The process is different than in years past, so it is important to follow those directions carefully. We will be using the Skyward Family Access to sign up for conferences. Just like last year, conferences will be held on Wednesday, November 15 from 2:30pm-7:30pm (excluding 5:00-5:30), and Friday, November 17 from 8:00am-1:00pm (excluding 11:00am-11:30am). The window to schedule conferences opens up this Thursday, October 26th. Please sign up at your earliest convenience (first come, first served). If you are having issues with scheduling or have questions, please feel free to contact me or the Jackson school office. Looking forward to seeing everyone during conferences. Families,
As a part of our Reading Unit on Informational Text, including Autobiographies, Biographies, and Memoirs, students will be bringing home a Biography assignment that will be due on Thursday, November 2nd (next week). Below is an list of what is required for the assignment. Students should have checked out a Biography book from the school library today. Many have expressed interest in a person they could not find a biography on. They must use a book to help them complete the assignment (other supplemental materials are okay as well). If they couldn't find the person at our school library, they had to check out a backup person in case they couldn't find a book on their first choice at the public library. Please let me know if you have any questions as your child completes the work at home: Paper Bag Biography On the front section of your paper bag put:
Write about your person’s life on the back of the bag describing:
Inside the bag:
Bring in the book that you read too! Jackson's annual Harvest Night will be taking place tonight, October 23, from 6:00-7:30. There will be games, food, prizes, and most hauntingly of all, the Haunted Courtyard. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
Families,
We will be using Google Classroom this school year in Room #209. This will be a way for our classroom work to be housed in one location. I will be assigning classwork through the Classroom, as well as posting links to some websites we will be using in school only. If you would like an email including more information, please let me know and I will be happy to forward that to you. Have a great weekend! The students have been doing an amazing job reading on Epic! Books during our Reading Workshop time. As a class, we have already read over 200 books and counting! The great thing about Epic! Books is that it finds books for students based on what they are interested in, and there are many books that are audio books. Students should be able to continue the reading at home. Students should log in like they do at school using the classroom code YGE-8256. Parents can also sign up for a paid version that unlocks other books. Happy reading!
Panther Preview Night will be held next week Wednesday, October 25th, from 5:00-6:30 at Farnsworth Middle School. This event is open to all fifth grade students and their families, and will be an opportunity to meet teachers, students, learn about technology and other fun activities to get the students excited about middle school. Food will be provided, and there will be plenty of opportunities for games and prizes. No need to RSVP, just show up and have fun!
Families,
Students will be coming home today with materials to create a Halloween decoration to be hung up in the gym for Harvest Night next week Monday, 10/23. They have black and white construction paper, as well as green paint swatches and orange paint swatches. Using those materials, they should create a green Frankenstein and orange pumpkin decoration. Below is a link for what those could look like. These will be due on Thursday of this week. Please let me know if you have questions. https://funfamilycrafts.com/paint-chip-halloween-craft/ Families,
The Jackson PTO is still looking for volunteers to help with the annual Jackson Harvest Night, which will take place on Monday, October 23rd. Volunteers are needed to help with food, games, and other activities. Please let me or Lisa Herber ([email protected]) know if you are able to help out. Looking forward to a great event! |
