Room #209 Families,
Starting today and for the next several weeks during our biweekly guidance lessons, students will be learning about the new intruder alert procedure for Jackson and the Sheboygan Area School District. In the past, we have called this a "Lockdown" procedure, where students and staff were told to close their doors, turn the lights off, and huddle out of sight, away from the door. The district has now adopted the "A.L.I.C.E" procedure for if a dangerous person/intruder were to enter the building. Below is a brief description of the procedure. Please know that this is not sequential. The steps are meant to be fluid and responsive to the situation. Alert=This could be a noise or an announcement to let you know there is a dangerous someone. Lockdown=If you can't leave, lock and block doors. Be ready to counter Inform=Let everyone know what is happening. May be announcement or phone call. Counter=Make noise or throw things at the dangerous someone. Evacuate=Run zig-zag out of the building to the rally point (Bethel Baptist Church across Weeden Creek Road). Students were told today that the best course of action would be to evacuate, but there may be instances where that is not possible, and they would have to use one of the other strategies. Sometime this week, our class will be practicing walking to the rally point so that students are aware where to go in case of an intruder. At this time, there is no plan to do an all-school drill. We want to ensure that students are PREPARED, not SCARED. If you have any questions, please see me or Mrs. Bonestroo, our guidance counselor.
