Families,
Our classroom is experiencing some issues over the last couple of days in relation to theft. An absent student had three pieces of gum on his desk from a reward he earned, which were in a sealed bag. After our morning instruction, it was discovered that all three pieces were missing. One student has come forward and confessed to taking one of the pieces, but so far, no one has confessed to taking the other two pieces. After the two (chewed) pieces were discovered in a student's book bin, that child was confronted and said he/she did not take the gum. While I understand that the items stolen are minimal in value, I have talked with the students about the severity of theft, and how it disrupts our classroom community. We also talked that while we are all individuals in the classroom, we represent a larger classroom community, and are responsible for our own actions, as well as the actions of our class as a whole. Because no one has admitted to taking the two pieces of gum, I am temporarily suspending Chrome book usage in the classroom that doesn't directly relate to instruction. I would encourage you to talk to your child about the severity of theft and that these actions have consequences. Please feel free to email or contact me with any questions or concerns. Mr. Krause

Thank you everyone who has reached out regarding this issue. You will be happy to know (and the students are as well), that the person who was involved in the theft has admitted to it. I informed the students today that all technology time is reinstated. We talked today that this incident is now considered over. It was not revealed to the students who the individual was that was involved, as I didn't feel this would positively impact our classroom community. My expectation to them was that there be no further discussion amongst themselves regarding the issue.
