Families,
Thank you to everyone, families and students, for being flexible during my paternity leave. Overall, it sounds like things went great, and the students were very active learners, as always. Just wanted to keep you updated on some odds and ends as we enter May. First of all, the May Newsletter has been uploaded, so please check that out to get a glimpse of what May has in store for our learning community. 5th Grade Recognition: Thank you to those who attended the first committee meeting last week. We have a great start on planning the event. If anyone is still interested in helping out, please let me know. The baby picture was due on April 27th. If you have not sent that in, please do so ASAP, as this is a vital piece of the final presentation during the recognition ceremony. Students will also be bringing home some art work to do that will hang during the event. Please look for that in the coming weeks. May Testing: While the FORWARD Exam has wrapped up, there are still some summative assessments that your child will be taking this month to assess their growth, as well as their response to instruction in both reading and math. Students will take the STAR 360 test, an online test in both reading and math, during the week of May 14th. As is the case with all assessments, students should get plenty of rest the night before, as well as a healthy breakfast the day of the test. Students will also take the Fountas and Pinnell Reading Test individually with me to assess their fluency and comprehension in reading. This will take place over several weeks starting the week of May 7th. Field Trips: Due to some funding issues, there has been a change to the Sports Day Field Trip. I apologize, but the 4th graders will be staying back at Jackson this day, while the 5th graders participate in the Sports Day Event. For those of you who purchased a Jackson T-Shirt, please hang on to that for next year, as we will use the same t-shirts for Sports Day next year. If you have questions or concerns regarding this change, please let me know. Also, the 5th graders will be taking a brief field trip to South High School for a Gym Field Trip on 5/22/18. This is a new field trip this year thanks to Mr. Herber and his efforts to promote healthy living throughout the Sheboygan Area School District. No School Days: There will be no school on Friday, May 25th and Monday, May 28th. Thank you, Mr. Krause
