Feb. 5th - 9th - Flag:
During this week, classrooms will be coming up with a CREATIVE country name for the class Students will then design and create a flag for the “country”. The students chose "Chatty Cathy's" for our classroom country name and are already in the process of designing the flag. Friday, Feb. 9th at 10:00 - Opening Ceremonies in the gym & wear Red, White and Blue Day: One representative from the class will be the flag carrier. During the opening ceremony, the flags will parade in and then be hung on the wall of the gym. Students will then get a brief history of the Winter Olympics and the opening ceremony which will be on TV later that night. Each grade level will be introduced to their behavioral focus during our PBIS Olympic Booster and told that each grade level will be preparing a 5 minute presentation to be given during our closing ceremony. The focus for Room #209 will be on Respecting All Adults. Feb. 12th - 26th - Gold Medals : Teachers will be given a pad of 50 Gold Medals to be handed out during our Olympics. Teachers may give them to any class that they observe following our PBIS expectations in our ALL SCHOOL areas (Hallway behaviors, lunchroom behavior, playground and lining up.) This is a team medal, not an individual event. Classroom teachers will be in charge of collecting their gold medals and hanging them under their flag at the end of each day so that we can keep a medal count and announce our progress throughout our booster to keep the kids excited. Each medal will count as 1 minute of a class activity/movement time. If your class earns 20 medals, you will have 20 minutes. This time is not to exceed 30 minutes. (More on this below.) Feb. 12th - 26th - Cool Tools: Each grade level will be focusing on different Cool Tools during this time. Again, our focus is on Respecting All Adults. Each grade level will be responsible for sharing their Cool Tools and what they learned with the rest of the school at our Closing Ceremonies on February 26th. This will be a 5 minute presentation, either teacher or student led. It will be a short video, a power-point, a poster, a poem or chant. Feb. 26th at 2:30- 3:30 - Closing Ceremony & Wear Red, White and Blue day: At our closing ceremony, we will have each grade level share their 5 minute presentation of their Cool Tool and what they have learned. We will then be handing out awards for the medals earned during our booster. We will then have classes “retire” their flags and we will lower the Olympic flag, as they did the night before during the Winter Olympics. Students will be encouraged to continue following our behavioral expectations throughout the rest of the year. Feb. 27th - Movement Celebration: Each classroom teacher will set aside some celebration/movement time with your class. The amount of time set aside will be based upon the number of medals your class earned, not to exceed 30 minutes. During this movement time, classes may go outside for an extra recess, take a walk around the school or on the walking trail, spend time on Go Noodle or other websites that get kids up and moving.
